HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT

Hauz khas is named after an ancient water reservoir by the same name. In Urdu, “hauz” means “water tank” and Khas means “Royal”, giving it the meaning- “ the royal tank”.The large water tank was first built by Allauddin Khilji to supply water to the inhabitants of Siri Fort.

The tank for water storage stretching to approximately 123 acres of land. The lake dried and was later filled with water, giving us the famous hauz khas deer park with a beautiful lake. Beside thhe lake is the Hauz khas fort which was once inhibited by rulers of khilji and tughlaq dynasty. Most of the architectural work in hauz khas complex was done by the Firuz Shah in 14th century because of his keen interest in architecture.

All these monuments and architecture attracted tourists from all over the globe to see the work of these rulers. With more tourists more restaurants , café and lounges opened in the region making hauz khas one of the best party spot in Delhi .

Hauz khas was developed during the 1960’s by DLF as Hauz khas enclave.
